Animation for a Change

The Galway One World Centre run a very exciting training workshop on animation skills at the end of August 2012. Fully booked out, the participants – teachers, drama writers, storytellers, youth workers and others – thoroughly enjoyed developing a short animated piece, from storyboard to animation and sound production, the results of which can be seen below.

Lisa Fingleton, the facilitator (the Happy Artist), had put together a long list of animations to inspire us – t see them all, follow this link!

Immigrants’ experiences in Galway, Ireland

In April and May of 2012, six immigrants living in Ireland were interviewed about their experiences living in the country, and more specifically in Galway. These interviews were conducted for the Galway One World Centre, a Galway based development education centre, by John Roe and Bart Lever, two MA students at NUI Galway (Masters in Ethics, Culture & Global Change). The impetus to carry out these interviews was fuelled by their interest in how a person’s cultural background makes them perceive daily life differently from someone of a different cultural background. They also believed that this snapshot of different cultural perspectives might be instrumental in showing native Irish people what it is like to live in Ireland as a non-native. The end product is varied and colourful, and will hopefully achieve the intended aim. The views expressed in this video represent these individuals’ personal views and do not represent those of any larger group or organisation and should not be interpreted as such – after all two people from the same background might have very different experiences. Thanks must go to all participants, NUI Galway, and the Galway One World Centre for all their support and cooperation. Special thanks to Gráinne McGrath, CELT, for all her work in editing.
