Economics Learning Circle

The Galway One World Centre will be hosting a six-week Economics Learning Circle starting on the 19th February from 7 – 9 pm. The sessions will explore and demystify the world of debt, globalised credit, banking and finance and look at lessons from the Global South. The course will be facilitated by Dr. Conor McCabe, researcher on Alternatives to Capitalism at UCD’s School of Social Justice and the author of ‘Sins of the Father: Tracing the Decisions That Shaped the Irish Economy.’

The workshops are open to all, and are suitable for ‘beginners’ – there is no need for a background in economics. The series is aimed at activists, those engaged in their communities and anyone interested in how to challenge inequality, locally and globally.

Conor Mc Cabe explains, “We’ll be exploring the world of credit, banking and finance, and drawing upon the world of global studies and feminist economics to do so. We would encourage people to let us know what kinds of issues they would like to cover, so that we are sharing and addressing real questions and concerns”.

The workshops are being held at the Amnesty Centre, Middle Street, Galway and are being offered by donation.  To book a place, please contact Vicky at education@galwayowc.org or call 0872645344
